A businessman from Kroonstad, in collaboration with the Department of Arts and Culture in the Free State, has started a mentorship programme for the youth and young adults in and around Kroonstad.
The aim of this is to empower the youth with knowledge through training sessions. Topics such as drug and alcohol abuse, as well as teenage pregnancy, will be addressed.
The youth can also attend training sessions through which they can learn various skills to become entrepreneurs.
“We hope to work with stakeholders in the community and schools to create a positive and hopeful environment for the youth of Kroonstad,” says Mackson Maphaha, chief executive officer (CEO) of MapLegacy Kroonstad.
On 2 and 3 September, a play by the Maokeng Dance Telling The Story Theatre in the town hall will address some of the issues. Unemployed youth from Kroonstad will perform. The National Lottery and the Ikageng Community Project will also contribute to the play.
Tickets will be sold at R80 and all audience members under 18 years can attend the play for free. VIP tables are available for corporate companies that would like to support the initiative. Tickets are available at Shoprite, Checkers, Pick n Pay, and all local filling stations.
