The first weekend in September turned bloody for residents of Moakeng in Kroonstad.
A love triangle resulted in the murder of a 30-year-old man after his 27-year-old girlfriend heard him talking on the phone with another woman. A quarrel arose and the woman, Seipati Florence Mpata, fatally stabbed her friend.
“She has already appeared in court on charges of murder,” says Sgt. Josephine Rani, police spokesperson.
On Sunday, 4 September, around 03:15, patrons of a tavern were attacked and robbed by a gang on their way home. One person was killed. While paramedics were on the scene, residents brought a 20-year-old man with stab wounds for treatment. This man died and shortly after the incident an 18-year-old, wearing bloodstained clothing, was arrested.
Around 04:00, the police were called to another murder scene in the area, where a 17-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the murder.
Meanwhile, a body was found in sewage in Zuma Park. The police are investigating the matter.
