Talented visual artists in the Free State are encouraged to enter this year’s New Breed Art Competition offering R100 000 in prize money.
Entrants can submit their work at the Oliewenhuis Art Museum in Bloemfontein from 12 to 18 September.

Since its inception in 2016, the competition has pursued its objective of unearthing talented visual artists and affording them an opportunity to showcase their work at national exhibitions.
It is the brainchild of law firm Phatshoane Henney and is presented in association with Oliewenhuis, the Art Bank of South Africa (ArtbankSA) and the Free State Art Collective.
The first prize is R50 000, the runner-up receives R20 000 and each of the two merit award winners win R10 000, as well as the public choice award winner.
Artists selected to participate in the competition exhibition at Oliewenhuis – which serves as the final round – including the winners, automatically qualify for consideration and inclusion in the Free State Art Collective, founded by Karen Brusch.
Voting for selected works to determine the winner of the public choice award will be done from 4 to 31 October on the competition’s website.
Selected works will be exhibited at Oliewenhuis from 4 October to 13 November, with the winners announced at a prize-giving function on 3 November.
