Trophy held up with pride

The Jordania Primary School in Bethlehem is the overall winner of the first Nika Coertzen Hockey Tournament, held at the Eunice High School in Bloemfontein.


The Jordania Primary School in Bethlehem is the overall winner of the first Nika Coertzen Hockey Tournament, held at the Eunice High School in Bloemfontein.

Hosted from 2 to 4 August, the tournament afforded 16 U12 and U13 hockey teams of schools from across South Africa the opportunity to compete against each other, all vying for bragging rights.

Jordania ultimately emerged as the winner of the tournament, with Our Lady of Fatima from Durban taking second place, and the Laerskool Garsfontein coming in third place.

The participating teams hailed from: the Eunice Primary School, Laerskool Garsfontein, Laerskool Kenmare, Our Lady of Fatima, Jordania Primary School, Roedean School, St Andrew’s School for Girls, St John’s Diocesan School for Girls (DSG), Trio Primary School, Truida Kestell Primary School and the Willem Postma Primary School.

Eunice hosted 230 players and 30 officials.

“The aim of this tournament was to let players grow in confidence and enjoy themselves, to learn new things and develop their skills, as well as to give coaches the opportunity to identify things they should work on for the future,” says, Nika Coertzen, Eunice High School first team hockey coach.
