Three suspects in a livestock theft case in which sheep went missing in the Bethlehem district remain in custody.
Mokanyane Lerato (19), Mokanyane Tankiso (26) and Motaung Lebohang (27) remain in custody after appearing in the Bethlehem Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 17 October, for charges of livestock theft.
On 15 October, at about 06:00, a farmer in the Bethlehem district noticed some of his sheep grazing outside the pasture. On counting the sheep, he realised 27 were missing. Nearby tracks and footprints were noticed and followed, leading to the discovery of four slaughtered sheep and 11 still alive.
On further investigation, four more sheep were found. The first suspect was arrested while the second tried to flee. He was apprehended. During the preliminary investigation, a third suspect was also arrested.
The suspects will appear in court on 25 October for formal bail application.
