On Sunday, 23 February, members of the police pulled over a truck and trailer near Kroonstad on the N1 after receiving a tip-off about drugs in transit.

Upon doing so, officials found six boxes containing rolled bundles of the Catha edulis plant, also known as the khat drug.

After probing into the matter, the police found out the truck had been on its way from Gauteng to the Western Cape.

The driver, a 39-year-old freight carrier, and a 32-year-old female companion were arrested.

In total, the police counted 1 520 bundles of Khat, weighing 26,35 kg and with a street value of an estimated R91 200.

A case of dealing in drugs was opened at the Kroonstad Police Station, and the suspects will appear before court soon.
