The Thabo Mofutsanyana District Crime Combating Highway Patrol unit arrested two foreign nationals who tried to hijack a diesel truck about 20 km outside Paul Roux towards Senekal.
On Thursday (24/03) at 23:50, the driver of a diesel truck that was on its way from Durban to Bloemfontein noticed that he was being followed by three vehicles.
He was forced off the road and the suspects climbed onto the trailer to try to unhitch it.
The driver fled the scene in fear for his life and called the Paul Roux police for assistance.
The police immediately activated the Highway Patrol on the N5, who found the truck and two suspects with jamming devices and arrested them.
The police warn truck drivers to be vigilant and to immediately report any suspicious vehicles or persons on the road. The re-deployment and additional visibility of 24/7 patrol vehicles were actioned by the provincial commissioner’s office on national roads to mitigate truck and car hijackings, as well as cash-in-transit incidents.
