Two livestock speculators from Ficksburg who were found guilty of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, common assault, intimidation and malicious damage to property, have been sentenced.
Rudi Gericke (39) and Kleinjan le Grange (35) were sentenced by the Ficksburg Regional Court for an incident that occurred at the Ficksburg Golf Club on 6 August 2022.
On the day of the incident, patrons were watching a rugby match on television when the accused assaulted people inside the golf club – while others tried to intervene. They also fell victim to the accused.
On 19 November Le Grange was sentenced to three years’ direct imprisonment, and Gericke to a year. Gericke is also serving 13-year prison sentence for the murder of a young farmer of Ficksburg, Evan Sorour (28), shot by Gericke in January 2023. This case made headlines nationwide.
