Open water mile braved

Three swimmers from Kroonstad who participated in the 49th Midmar Mile open water swimming event can be pleased with their results.


Three swimmers from Kroonstad who participated in the 49th Midmar Mile open water swimming event can be pleased with their results.

This event took place in the Midmar Dam in KwaZulu-Natal from 10 to 13 February.

The well-known masters swimmer Barbara Fraatz competed in the division for contenders 13 years and under and 31 years and over, in the category 51 to 60 years, and finished in 26:23. Johan Muller also swam in the category 51 to 60 years, finishing in 45:57.

Billy Brand competed in the division for contenders 13 years and under and 31 years and over, in the category 61 to 70 years, and finished in 52:07.

“Although there were strict Covid-19 protocols and high safety standards, it was an awesome and well-planned event, as usual,” says Fraatz.

“A big ‘thank you’ to Wayne Ridden and his team for organising such a big event.”

  • The charity challenge and school relays were hosted on the first two days, while age group contenders and open class swimmers swam on 12 and 13 February.
