Free State Care in Action in Kroonstad has donated knitted beanies and socks to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of the Boitumelo Regional Hospital in Kroonstad.

On 1 March social workers of Free State Care in Action visited the hospital to hand over this donation for premature babies.

“The NICU was very grateful for the beanies and socks, but urgently needs rooibos tea for the breastfeeding mothers, and fleece blankets as well,” says Talitha Leqheku, social worker at Free State Care in Action.

The visitors were shown the kangaroo mother care concept, which involves skin-to-skin contact, an intervention to care for premature or low birth weight babies.
