David Mahlobo, deputy minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation, recently visited the Kroonstad waste water treatment plant to oversee repair work.

Cllr. Motloheloa Mokatsane, executive mayor of the Moqhaka Local Municipality, told Mahlobo on 5 May that he is pleased with the work done, although the original deadline for repairs was not met.

“It seems that the plant is fully functional during working hours,” Mokatsane said.

“When the flow increases at night, however, it only operates at 70%, and the other 30% is wasted. This occurs due to the size of the plant. Phase two of the pipline will eradicate this problem.”

He emphasised that maintenance plays an important role and that plant workers should keep their fingers on the pulse of things.

  • Deputy president David Mabuza visited Kroonstad in September 2021 to address Moqhaka’s sewage issues. He instructed that repairs should start on 24 September and be finished by December.
