The police in Ficksburg are investigating a harrowing incident that unfolded on Wednesday night, leading to the murder of a 39-year-old foreign national and leaving his wife injured.

The couple was reportedly attacked in their home by a group of six masked assailants demanding money.

At approximately 20:05 on Wednesday 29 October police responded to a shooting complaint and when they arrived at the residence, they found the husband lying lifeless in a pool of blood in the yard, having sustained two gunshot wounds. The husband was declared dead at the scene.

According to the police, the suspects, dressed in balaclavas, forced their way through the dining room door. They ransacked the house before the couple managed to escape and call for help.

One of the intruders shot the husband, whilst another struck the wife on the head with the gun.

The police has opened a case of murder and attempted murder, with the investigation focusing on identifying the assailants and determining the motive behind the attack.

“We appeal to anyone with information to come forward and assist us in bringing these criminals to justice,” says Sgt Mahlomola Kareli, police spokesperson.
