The well-known masters swimmer from Kroonstad, Barbara Fraatz (58), completed her tenth Midmar Mile open water swim this year.


The well-known masters swimmer from Kroonstad, Barbara Fraatz (58), completed her tenth Midmar Mile open water swim this year.

This was the 51st Midmar Mile, and the event was held from 8 to 11 February at the Midmar Dam near Howick in KwaZulu-Natal.

Fraatz participated in the event for girls 13 years and younger, and women 31 years and older. Her specific category was that of women aged 51 to 60 years.

She completed her race in a time of 27:56, earning her the overall fourth place in her category.

“It was, as usual, a fantastic event and I am so grateful to have completed my tenth Midmar Mile.

“Well done to all the organisers of this prestigious event. It was wonderful to be back in the water with all the familiar faces,” says Fraatz.

Thousands of swimmers of all ages and abilities participated in this world-class open water swimming event.

Fraatz is a member of the Coelacanth Masters Swimming Club in Pretoria, and she practises to participate in events as often as she can.
