A young man from Bethlehem hopes to inspire the youth of the country with his recent appearance on national television.
Lekgutsa Mbele was on the panel that discussed South Africa’s role in world problems and how it relates to human rights on the SABC News show The Big Debate South Africa.
He had received an email on 25 June, inviting him to be one of the youth panellists – chosen from all nine provinces – as the show was concluding Youth Month.
Mbele made his appearance on the show that was aired on the SABC 3 on 27 June.
The panel discussed if South Africa was being consistent enough in its approach to uplift the Global South; or if the country did not simply represent an alternative group of human rights abusers and players in the same game of conquest and exploitation.
“It was a great honor for me to receive this invitation, especially as a leader of various organisations; being among others the provincial chairman of the South African Arts and Culture Youth Forum and the director of an organisation called Re Phethile Art Production,” said Mbele.
“It has become clear that my work is visible, as I found myself as a youth who represented the entire Free State and not just the town where I live,” he elaborated with reference to his role as the only Free State panellist on the show.
“I am very proud that I had this opportunity, and I hope it gives a positive message to other young people.”
