The Forum of Community Journalists (FCJ) is thrilled to announce the outcome of its recent annual general meeting (AGM), where a new leadership team was elected to steer the forum in its unwavering commitment to upholding journalistic integrity and fostering community engagement.

Ben Burger was elected as the executive director for the FCJ, which sees Marietta Lombard stepping into the role of deputy executive director.

In addition, the FCJ has welcomed the winner of the esteemed Press Photographer of the Year for 2022 award, Wayne van der Walt, as the new director for Mpumalanga and Limpopo. Van der Walt will be adding his award-winning talents to the forum’s leadership.

Van der Walt takes over from Tobie van den Bergh, a founding member of the FCJ. Van den Bergh retired on 31 March after almost 50 years in the community news industry.

Ronelle Ramsamy joins as a co-opted director for KwaZulu-Natal, expanding the FCJ’s footprint and influence in this pivotal province.

With her accolades as an award-winning journalist, Ramsamy brings added prominence and influence to the FCJ in this region.

The FCJ is primed to propel its mission of promoting excellence in community journalism, and safeguarding the rights of journalists across South Africa.
