Kroonstad combatants’ fighting prowess put to the test

Thirteen students of the Kroonstad Black Belt Academy participated in the American Taekwondo Association South Africa (ATA-SA) provincial tournament in Johannesburg on Saturday, 7 September.


Thirteen students of the Kroonstad Black Belt Academy participated in the American Taekwondo Association South Africa (ATA-SA) provincial tournament in Johannesburg on Saturday, 7 September.

These young combatants won a total of 55 medals: 30 of which are gold, 22 silver, and 3 bronze medals across the traditional sparring, traditional forms, traditional weapons, combat weapons, team combat weapons, and team sparring divisions. These divisions ranged from karate for kids (aged seven to 17 years) and adult taekwondo.

Marnu Pretorius, Sonja Coetzee, Megan Pestana, Daniellè Pestana, Katya Pestana, Adèl Jansen van Vuuren, Iwan Landman, and Benno van der Westhuizen participated in the colour belt division; while Wian Kotze, Crystal Bailie, Kayla Coetzee, Burhan Coetzee and Christian Barnard participated in the black belt divisions.
