The Senekal police have arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly setting his ex-girlfriend’s shack alight after they had an argument at a tavern.


The Senekal police have arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly setting his ex-girlfriend’s shack alight after they had an argument at a tavern.

On Saturday (08/07) at about 17:20 the 33-year-old woman from the Tambo section in Matwabeng, near Senekal, left home to visit a local tavern.

On arrival she had a confrontation with her ex-boyfriend, who threatened to stab her with a broken beer bottle.

On Sunday at about 03:10, she received a call from her ex-boyfriend. He informed her that her shack was on fire. Fortunately, she had decided to sleep at her sister’s house.

The suspect was traced and arrested, and a case of arson has been opened.

The suspect appeared in the Senekal Magistrates’ court on Monday, charged with arson.
