Eunice High School’s tapestry is woven by unity.

Diversity adds unique colours to the masterpiece.

Excellence is the high standard of quality and sisterhood is the golden thread that binds their collective ambition.

All this has contributed towards Eunice’s success over the past 149 years.

The matric class of 2023 consisted of 156 candidates. They all rose to the occasion and continued the long-standing success by achieving a 100% pass rate for the 38th consecutive year.

Together they attained a class average of 71%.

The school is honoured and grateful for all the achievements of its learners and teachers.

Eunice attained the position of top Mathematics and Physical Science school (more than 80 learners per subject) in the Free State.

The school also boasts six learners in the top 50 in the Free State.

At a special celebration at the school on Tuesday, 23 January, 15 learners received Eunice’s highest award – the Eunice Board Medal.

This medal is awarded to all matric learners who obtain five or more distinctions (excluding Life Orientation) in the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination.

The class attained 326 subject distinctions and 99,4% of the matrics achieved the minimum requirements for tertiary study.

Headmistress, Zinnette de Wet says that Eunice offers oppor-tunities for diversely talented learners.

“Whether you’re a bookworm, interested in becoming a library monitor, a master chef cooking in the Consumer Studies lab, an artist working on your latest masterpiece in the art class, or a an aspiring actress auditioning in the Eunice Theatre, we have it all.

“For our sports enthusiasts, we offer all the sporting codes with top-class coaches and facilities.”

Various athletes represented Eunice at national and international level in 2023. The school celebrates its athletes – who not only excel in school sporting codes, but also represent the school in non-school sports.

The Vitae Cantamus Choir recently returned from a successful European tour after performing on world class stages. The top debaters and public speakers represented the school and achieved awards at national level.

As an English medium school for girls, Eunice ladies are granted opportunities to develop holistically in an optimal environment. They will develop a mastery of English.

Eunice learners are the school’s top priority. They are encouraged to develop habits that promote their wellness.

The school’s Learner Support Department, consisting of three qualified counsellors, offers assistance to the ladies and facilitates development programmes through awareness campaigns.

These campaigns include: awareness programmes, wellness connect sessions, motivational messages and regular mentor-mentee gatherings. Grade Guardians and Academic Grade Heads also focus on helping learners to find their perfect balance.

The Green Heart service campaigns encourages learners to become involved in community projects.

They learn to appreciate what they have and how to make a difference through community collections.

Eunice House brings learners together from all corners of South Africa. They form unbreakable bonds as “sisters” in an enriching boarding environment.

Here they have a safe space and a home away from home. They support one another during challenging times and celebrate the good times.

The School Song, written by former Headmistress ELM King, states aptly: “That all around has changed since her cornerstone was laid, the spirit of Eunice has never been dismayed. The future will not frighten her; she fears neither change nor strife, for she dwells beside the waters of wisdom and of life.”

“Eunice staff strives to encourage every lady to make the school motto her mantra: Vincit qui se vincit – She conquers, who conquers herself,” says De Wet in closing.
