Five men were each sentenced to 41 years in prison in relation to a farm attack in the Harrismith district, during which a farmer was murdered.


Five men were each sentenced to 41 years in prison in relation to a farm attack in the Harrismith district, during which a farmer was murdered.

Found guilty on charges of murder, kidnapping, robbery and burglary, they were sentenced in the Free State High Court in Harrismith on Thursday, 28 November.

The men attacked Mike Pattinson on his farm, Summerslie, in July last year.

They then robbed and kidnapped him. Pattinson was eventually loaded into the trunk of his own vehicle, after which he was killed in the Tseseng area.

Teboho Mothebedi (22), Jabulane Ngcongwane (24), Bheki Maphalala (22), Lephosa Motaung (24) and Siyabonga Khumalo (18) were arrested and each sentenced to 20 years in prison for murder, 12 years for aggravated robbery, 6 years for kidnapping, and 3 for burglary.
