To help combat crime in Kroonstad, all car guards have been registered on a database. In September, 79 car guards received an identification (ID) card and a reflector vest to make them stand out to the public as regitered car guards. The safety of motorists in Kroonstad, especially the CBD, is a huge concern that has been addressed by the suggestion to make car guards identifiable and part of a reliable system.

To help combat crime, authorities and stakeholders, in collaboration with the community policing forums (CPF), registered all the car guards in town on a database in addition to equipping them with reflector vests and identification (ID) cards.

“It is important for us to make reliable car guards available to the public. This need arises from several criminal incidents that occurred in Kroonstad,” says Johan Fourie, chairperson of the sector 1 CPF in Kroonstad.

On 1 September members of the Kroonstad Social Crime and Rural Safety team, joined by the Kroonstad CPF sector 1 squad and external stakeholders, gathered all 79 registered car guards in Kroonstad to hand over the branded vests and ID cards.

Fourie expressed his heartfelt gratitude in relation to the initiative and acknowledged the partnership with the police and external stakeholders in assuring community members of Kroonstad, especially motorists, that they are in safe hands.

The police, CPF and stakeholders involved request the community to report any car guards without an ID card or identifiable reflector vest in order to help fight crime in Kroonstad.
